Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros held the Burlington Royals scoreless in a 2-0 win at Pioneer Park on Saturday. It was the fifth shutout win of the season for the Astros, moving them to 32-26 and giving them their third highest win total in the club's nine-year history. More importantly, it keeps the Astros right in the middle of the playoff race in the Appalachian League West. Meanwhile, Burlington is still hanging on to the top spot in the East with a 34-20 record on the season.
Rio Ruiz put the Astros on top in the bottom of the first inning on a ground ball RBI-single to right field with two outs and runners at second and third. This came following consecutive singles from Angel Ibanez and Carlos Correa earlier in the inning.
The game stayed at 1-0 over the next six innings behind strong pitching and defense highlighted by a diving grab at shortstop by Correa in the fourth inning that resulted in a double play when he also threw out the runner on first. Greeneville also got a good night from Adrian Houser, Tanner Bushue and Zachary Dando on the mound as they combined for a shutout while picking up 10 strikeouts on the night.
In the eighth inning, the Astros added one more run for insurance. Ibanez led off with a single and moved over to second on a Correa sacrifice bunt. Then, Ibanez advanced to third on a Michael Martinez deeply hit ball to center field and scored on a RBI-single from Terrell Joyce.
Greeneville's Houser pitched five innings, gave up five hits and struck out three as he earned the win. Bushue followed with one hit and three strikeouts over the next two innings. Then, Dando closed the game with one hit and four strikeouts over the final two innings to pick up the save.
The Astros will look to sweep the Royals in game three of the series on Sunday at 6:00pm. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
