Greeneville Astros News Release
Burlington, NC - The Greeneville Astros (32-32) suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Burlington Royals (30-35) in Saturday's series finale.
Astros shortstop Osvaldo Duarte led Greeneville offensively with a three-for-four performance at the plate. Left fielder Daz Cameron followed by going two-for-four with a triple, his ninth stolen base and scored Greeneville's lone run.
Cameron's triple came with one out in the top of the first as he sent the hit deep to centerfield. Then, centerfielder Kyle Tucker lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield, which allowed Cameron to tag from third and score. First baseman Connor Goedert would then single before the inning concluded.
Tucker finished the night one-for-three with a RBI while Goedert, right fielder Myles Straw and second baseman Arturo Michelena each managed to go one-for-four.
Left-hander Carlos Hiraldo (1-1, 4.50 ERA) started on the mound for Greeneville and tossed three innings, allowed three runs on five hits and struck out one batter. Joselo Pinales (1-2, 2.29 ERA) relieved Hiraldo in the fourth by throwing one inning, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out two.
Two of Burlington's runs came in the bottom of the first beginning with Brian Bien reaching on an error. Ben Johnson then hit a home run over the wall in left-centerfield to put the Royals up 2-1.
Johnson was imperious in the Royals run-scoring effort as he lined a one-out triple to right field in the bottom of the third. Then, he crossed the plate with Burlington's third and final run on a wild pitch with Colton Frabasilio batting.
After Pinales shut down the Royals in the fourth, Edgardo Sandoval (0-0, 1.13 ERA) and Luis Ramirez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) stifled Burlington's bats. Sandoval pitched three innings, allowed just three hits and struck out one while Ramirez threw a flawless eighth inning with one strikeout.
The Astros had one more chance to get back into the game in the top of the ninth. After a leadoff walk from Luis Payano and singles from Michelena and Duarte, the Astros had the bases loaded with one out. However, they were unable to bring any runners home.
Greeneville sits in second place and holds a one game advantage in the Western Division standings over the Elizabethton Twins.
The Astros return home to Pioneer Park to face the Princeton Rays in a three-game series to conclude the regular season beginning on Sunday with a 6 PM scheduled first pitch.
