Astros-Mets suspend game due to rain

Kingsport, TN - The Appalachian League match-up between the Greeneville Astros and Kingsport Mets was suspended at the top of the sixth inning on Friday due to rain with the score all even at 5-5. The suspended game will resume at 5:00pm in Kingsport on Saturday and will be followed by the regularly scheduled game.

Prior to the rain arriving, Jean Batista had already shown he was continuing his recent hot streak as he connected on a run-scoring double for the Astros in the second inning and a run-scoring triple in the fifth. Terrell Joyce also hit a RBI-double, for the third consecutive night, which gave the Astros their initial lead in the first inning. Greeneville's other two runs came from a RBI single by Brian Blasik in both the third and fifth innings.

With the Mets trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Kingsport got things going after loading the bases with no outs on a walk and two singles. With that opportunity, they scored one run on a base hit by Jeffrey Diehl and another on a sacrifice fly by Jeyckol De Leon. Then, Tomas Nido led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer for Kingsport to tie the game and, before the inning was over, Eris Peguero and Gavin Cecchini each knocked in runs on base hits.

After both games are completed on Saturday, the Astros will only have one more road game at Kingsport before heading back to Greeneville for the team's home opener on Monday, June 25 against the Princeton Rays.
