Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros put on quite a show for their fans this Fourth of July, defeating the Elizabethton Twins by a score of 10-3. The Astros' victory gives Greeneville sole possession of first place in the Appalachian League West and raises their season record to 7-4 (5-1 at home). The record breaking 3,907 fans in attendance Saturday night watched as the Astros set a season high in hits (16) and tied their season high in runs (10). Greeneville's defeat of Elizabethton marks their third series victory in 2015.

Junior Garcia was once again phenomenal for the Astros on the mound, maintaining his 0.00 ERA through his third start of the season. Garcia is now one of only two Appalachian League pitchers with a perfect ERA, having pitched 1.1 more innings than the man in second place. The 19-year-old left-hander from the Dominican Republic allowed only one hit through his four innings pitched, striking out four in the process.

Jose Montero, returning to Greeneville on a rehab stint, picked up the win for the Astros in the fifth inning. For Montero, it was his second consecutive Fourth of July victory in a Greeneville uniform. Ryan Deemes recorded the hold, hurling three innings of one run ball and striking out a career-high six batters. Brandon Culbreth and Joselo Pinales also appeared in the ballgame, pitching 0.2 and 0.1 innings, respectively.

The Astros' offense was unstoppable Saturday night as seven of the nine starters recorded multi-hit games. Connor Goedert once again led the run-scoring crusade, going four-for-five at the plate and driving in two runs. Goedert's season batting average now rests at an even .500, putting him in second place in the Appalachian League in the category.

Randy Cesar and Myles Straw also had notable performances at the plate, each smacking two hits and driving in a run. Ford Stainback picked up his first RBI of the season as he went two-for-two at the plate and drew two walks. Osvaldo Duarte hit a double and a triple in the ballgame, raising his slugging percentage to .488 on the year, while also driving in three runs.

All of the Astros' runs were scored in the first four innings of the ballgame as Greeneville jumped out to an early lead on pitcher Brandon Easton. The fourth inning, the most productive for the Astros, saw five runs came across to score thanks to RBI from Goedert, Cesar, Stainback, and Duarte. The Twins were able to scrape out three runs across innings eight and nine, but it was too little too late as Greeneville held on for the victory.

The Astros will next play two back-to-back road series vs. the Kingsport Mets and Johnson City Cardinals in the upcoming week. They will return to Pioneer Park on Saturday, July 11th to take on the Pulaski Yankees for a three-game series against their cross-division rivals. Prior to the game, the Astros players and coaching staff will be holding a free Skillz and Drillz Clinic for all young ballplayers who would like to attend. The camp will start at 10 AM and last until 12 PM. No registration is necessary.
