GREENEVILLE, TN - Greeneville Astros right-handed pitcher Brock Dykxhoorn has been named the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week by MiLB.com for the week of August 25-September 1, the final week of the 2014 regular season. In his last appearance on August 25, the 2014 sixth round draft pick of the Houston Astros, started his fourth game of the year and reached new season-highs with 5.0 innings and 10 strikeouts, while allowing just one unearned run on four hits and one walk, in the Astros' 3-1 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays.
Following Harold Arauz last week, the honor for Dykxhoorn marks the second consecutive time and the eighth overall in club history the Greeneville Astros have earned pitcher of the week honors. It is the first time the Astros have received the recognition in consecutive weeks and only their third time to collect the honor multiple times in the same season.
The 20-year-old six-foot-eight-inch Dykxhoorn, originally from Delhi, Ontario, Canada, was drafted by the Astros out of Central Arizona College and assigned to Greeneville on June 20. He went on to conclude his first professional season with a 3-3 record over 12 appearances with four starts. Overall, he posted a 4.31 ERA and had 36 strikeouts against eight walks over 31.1 innings.
