Greeneville Astros News Release

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros shutout the Bristol White Sox 10-0 on Tuesday night at Pioneer Park. It was the Astros' fourth shutout win of the season, and they are now 9-0 in games where they score at least 10 runs.

While the Sox only managed four hits on the night against Greeneville's strong pitching, just about everyone was hitting and scoring runs for the Astros. In all, eight different Astros collected at least one hit and scored at least one run.

D'Andre Toney led off the first inning with a single and stole second for the Astros. Then, in his first at-bat at Pioneer Park, Rio Ruiz nearly hit one out of the park. However, the fly ball hit off the wall in center field for a RBI-double. Finally, after a wild pitch to move Ruiz to third, Michael Martinez drove him in on an RBI-single.

Brian Blasik began the next inning with a hit, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from Bristol's catcher. Then, following a Terrell Joyce walk, Ernesto Genoves hit a sacrifice fly to left field to allow Blasik to head home and give the Astros a 3-0 lead.

After a couple of scoreless innings, Genoves led off the fifth with a double and moved to third on a passed ball. Two batters later, with one out and Ruiz on first after a walk, Carlos Correa grounded into a force out at second but beat the throw to first to avoid the double play and allow Genoves to score. Leading 4-0, the Astros' biggest inning was yet to come.

In the eighth inning, the Astros scored six runs on six hits. It all started when Correa and Martinez both got on before Jean Batista drove Correa in with a RBI-single. Then, with Blasik hitting, a missed catch error by Bristol at second base allowed another run to score. Ariel Ovando then connected on a RBI-single, and Jose Monzon came in and hit a sacrifice fly to score two more. Finally, Toney closed out the scoring with a two-run single.

Right-hander Frederick Tiburcio gave up four hits and struck out seven in seven innings as he earned the win. Brad Propst and Andrew Walter each pitched an inning to finish the game, gave up no hits and struck out five combined.

The Astros face Bristol in game two of their three-game series on Wednesday at 7:00pm. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
