
Aston-Reese Named Finalist for Hobey Baker Award

Lincoln, Neb. - Lincoln Stars alum Zach Aston-Reese was named among three (3) finalists for the
2017 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the NCAA announced on Thursday.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is an annual award given to the best college hockey player in the country as decided by all 60 Division I college hockey coaches, an online fan vote and a 27-member selection committee. The winner will be revealed on April 7.
Aston-Reese recorded 63 points in 38 games for Northeastern University during the 2016-2017 season. The 6'0" 180 pound forward led the NCAA with 31 goals. He finished his four-year college career with 148 points in 145 games, earning him a two-year, entry-level deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Aston-Reese posted 50 points in 138 games with the Stars from 2011-2013.
In the 36-year history of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, eight (8) USHL alumni have won the award and a former member of the USHL has won in five (5) of the last six (6) years. A Stars alum has never won.
The other finalists, Mike Vecchione (Union College) and Will Butcher (University of Denver), also played in the USHL. Vecchione played for the Tri-City Storm, while Butcher played for the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the United States National Team Development Program.
