Ask the CEO
April 18, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from Bruno, Arizona: "Why do some states have several ABA teams and some don't have any?"
Answer: Thank you for the question. You've sent in quite a few on a variety of subjects. I'll answer this one on Ask the CEO. ABA expansion generally starts with an inquiry from a prospective owner or ownership group. I usually respond with an email and set up a telephone conversation to answer initial questions. And the process proceeds from there.
For some reason, we get many inquiries from certain states like Texas, Illinois, New York, California, Washington, Florida, etc and fewer inquiries from other states like Arizona, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, etc. Our goal is to have teams in every state to make travel easier, to create great rivalries and to bring exciting fan-friendly and affordable ABA basketball to as many people as possible. While we don't have teams in several of the states mentioned above, we are working with groups there and in states with only one or two teams to expand. Hopefully, we'll be able to make some good announcements, including Arizona, shortly. Thanks for the interest. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
