
Around the Leagues: Abundance of World Cup Qualifiers and International Friendlies

Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Republic FC is in the midst of a three-game homestand with Wednesday night's match against Oakland Roots SC being the first-ever clash during league play between the two clubs.
Marks Briggs' men will be looking for a swift return to winning ways following Saturday night's 1-0 loss at the hands of Phoenix Rising FC in Sacramento.
There was also plenty of other action around the USL Championship over the weekend with Indy Eleven pulling off a 2-1 win over Louisville City on Saturday before Charlotte Independence was handed a 2-1 loss at the hands of Miami FC.
Sacramento against Oakland is just one of five midweek USL matchups including Loudoun United hosting Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, OKC Energy FC at Indy Eleven, Tampa Bay Rowdies paying a visit to New York Red Bulls II and Sporting Kansas City II welcoming FC Tulsa.
Major League Soccer
Major League Soccer produced plenty of entertainment over the weekend as well with NYCFC pulling off a dramatic 2-1 win at the end despite playing the closing minutes of the match down a man against LAFC.
LA Galaxy earned a 1-0 win over San Jose Earthquakes in another edition of the California Clasico while Colorado Rapids slammed three past FC Dallas to earn a 3-0 win at home.
On Sunday, Philadelphia Union triumphed 3-0 over Portland Timbers in Pennsylvania while Seattle Sounders FC and Austin FC played to a scoreless draw.
Austin will be the first team to return to play following the international break when the Texan team travels to Sporting Kansas City on June 12.
National Women's Soccer League
The NWSL weekend action kicked off on Friday with North Carolina Courage setting the tone with a 5-0 win over Racing Louisville.
The following day, Houston Dash left it until late to bag the game-winner when Kristie Mewis sealed the 2-1 win for the hosts over Chicago Red Stars.
Sunday's slate featured a trio of fixtures, all of which ending with a 1-0 score line. Portland Thorns' Crystal Dunn beat the Gotham FC goalkeeper early in the second half to lift her side to a road win, Marta's first half strike was the difference in Orlando Pride's 1-0 win over Kansas City in Florida while Washing Spirit pulled off a 1-0 win on the road against OL Reign following an own goal from Megan Rapinoe.
The action returns this coming weekend on Saturday with Courage visiting Red Stars, Gotham FC hosting OL Reign and Portland Thorns welcoming Racing Louisville to the Pacific Northwest. When Sunday rolls around its Dash visiting Kansas City while Spirit host Orlando.
2021 Concacaf Nations League
The U.S. Men's National Team returns to play this Thursday when the Stars and Stripes play Honduras at Mile High Stadium in Denver. The other semifinal showdown sees Mexico take on Costa Rica immediately following the USMNT match in Colorado.
The losers will meet in the third-place match on Sunday, June 6 in Denver while the winners will go head-to-head in the Final the same day immediately following the contest for bronze.
FIFA World Cup Qualifying
There's no shortage of mouthwatering matchups in FIFA World Cup Qualifier this week.
The biggest fixture in the competition over the next few days features Argentina taking on Chile in CONMEBOL play.
A trio of Republic FC players have been called into duty with Rafael Diaz linking up with the Dominican Republic, Kharlton Belmar joining Grenada and Shannon Gomez being summoned into duty with Trinidad and Tobago. The call-up for Gomez is his first World Cup Qualifier with the Soca Warriors who will take on the Bahamas this Saturday. Diaz and the D.R. will host Barbados on Friday earlier that same day Belmar's Grenada-side will visit Antigua and Barbuda.
UEFA European U21 Championships
The semifinals kick off this Thursday with a pair of heavyweight bouts between competitive European countries.
The first fixture sees Spain take on Portugal followed by the Netherlands clashing with Germany.
The winners will meet in the Stozice Sports Park in Slovenia for the Final. Spain is the defending champion after triumphing 2-1 win over Germany in 2019 in Italy.
International Friendlies
This week, players return to their national teams for international play with plenty of friendlies and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers lined up in the coming days.
Tuesday's slate of enticing friendly fixtures include Poland playing Russia, Slovakia taking on Bulgaria and Croatia going up against Armenia.
On Wednesday, some of the interesting matchups include the Netherlands playing Scotland, England taking on Austria, France clashing with Wales and Germany going up against Denmark.
Once Friday hits, European juggernauts are set to go head-to-head with Spain hosting Portugal and Italy taking on the Czech Republic.
