
Armada sweep Player of the Week awards
August 30, 2005 - Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release
Ryan Webb,OF, Long Beach Armada, is the California Division Player of the Week. The 6'2", 200-pound slugger hit .448 for the week, including three doubles and six stolen bases. He also led the GBL with in hits with thirteen and with eight runs scored as his Long Beach Armada qualified for the playoffs. Webb finished the year batting .344 on the season (5th best in the league), led the GBL in runs scored, and finished second in hits and stolen bases. This is his third Player of the Week award.
Matt Parris, RHP, Long Beach Armada has been selected as California Division Pitcher of the Week. Parris, a 22 year-old from Ventura, Ca. threw a complete game five-hit shutout while striking out four and walking none this week. This lowers his season E.R.A. to 2.76.
Arizona Division Player & Pitcher of the Week:
Javier Lopez, OF, Yuma Scorpions, has been named as Player of the Week for the Arizona Division. Lopez hit for an average of .444 while leading the GBL in RBIs with eight for the week. The 21 year-old from Puerto Rico also had two doubles and a home run and a total of 12 hits as he helped the Scorpions get to the final day of the season before being eliminated from the playoff picture.
Pete Hartmann, LHP, Surprise Fightin' Falcons, is the Arizona Division Player of the Week. Hartmann, a 33-year old player/coach, won 2 and lost zero during the week as he pitched 15 innings without giving up a run while striking out 12 batters. One of his wins was a complete game shutout as he led the Surprise squad back to a .500 record for the season.
