Arizona's Davila Named Al Lucas AFL Pulse Hero Award Winner

August 12, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - Arizona Rattlers QB NICK DAVILA has been awarded the Al Lucas AFL Pulse Hero Award for his recent philanthropic efforts, the League office announced today.

The Al Lucas AFL Pulse Hero Award is presented annually to the player who makes the most significant contribution to both his community and the game of Arena Football. The award was created in honor of Al Lucas, the late Los Angeles Avengers lineman who believed in both giving back to his community and growing the AFL.

Davila (6-3, 220, Cincinnati) has solidified himself as one of the AFL's all-time great passers, earning League MVP honors in 2011, ArenaBowl XXV MVP honors in 2012 and becoming the first player in pro football history to record four consecutive seasons with 100 passing touchdowns or more. He has also guided the Rattlers to three straight ArenaBowl appearances in his four-year career.

However, Davila has also left his mark on the Phoenix community, taking time to volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Phoenix and visiting the Phoenix Children's Hospital during the past season. He has also served dinner at St. Vincent de Paul, an organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless, and has worked at Save the Family, which also helps to support homeless families. In addition, he has visited and spoken with youth at the Mulligan's Manor Teen Center, a group home dedicated to at-risk teens from the ages of 12-18, as well as shared his knowledge and skills in athletics at Hubbard Sports Camps in Phoenix.

Davila and the Rattlers (15-3) will face the Philadelphia Soul (12-6) in ArenaBowl XXVI on Saturday, August 17 in Orlando, Florida on the CBS Television Network. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
