Solar Sox 8, Javelinas 5

The Mesa Solar Sox beat the Peoria Javelinas 8-5 Thursday night in a game that saw both teams finish with 13 hits. Tampa Bay prospects Joey Gathright and Delmon Young each had three hits in the win. Javelinas' leadoff hitter Ben Johnson (SD) was 3-for-5 in the losing effort.

After Solar Sox run on an RBI single by Brian Anderson (CWS), the Javelinas came back to take the lead in the bottom of the first. A triple off the center field wall by Greg Dobbs (SEA) tied the game. Dobbs would score on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Kouzmanoff (CLE) to give the Javelinas an early 2-1 lead.

Two tape measure home runs in the top of the third brought noise from the fans, and brought the Mesa Solar Sox the lead back. The first was an opposite field shot off the bat of Delmon Young (TB). The two-run shot gave Mesa a 3-2 lead. Two batters later Brian Dopirak (CHC) hit a two-run home run to the top of the berm in left field to give Mesa a 5-2 lead.

Single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for the Javelinas tied the game at five. The Javelinas would add three more runs for a comeback win on the road.

Scorpions 5, Rafters 4

A close game between the two teams that share Scottsdale Stadium went to the Scorpions 5-4. Grand Canyon scored four times in the third, but did not score at any other point in the game. A sacrifice by Scottsdale's James Loney (LA) broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning. Jason Bulger (AZ) pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save.

Down 2-0, back to back RBIs by Grand Canyon's Fred Lewis (SF) and Josh Bartlett (MIN) in the third inning tied the game at two. Later in the Rafters half of the fourth, Chris Shelton (DET) hit a two-run home run to give Grand Canyon a 4-2 lead.

The Scorpions would cut the lead to one on an RBI groundout by James Loney (LA). The next batter, Houston's Todd Self, hit an opposite field single over the third baseman's head to tie the game at four.

A well-executed eighth inning gave Scottsdale the win. Conor Jackson (AZ) lead off the inning with a double and went to third on a ground ball to first base hit by Corey Myers (AZ). The sacrifice fly by Loney scored the winning run.

Saguaros 7, Desert Dogs 0

Pitchers Kason Gabbard (BOS), Matt Lindstrom (NYM), Mike Johnston (PIT) and Adam Peterson (Tor) held the Desert Dogs to two hits over nine innings on their way to a 7-0 Saguaros victory. Lindstrom earned his first win of the season. The Saguaros record improves to 3-4.

The Saguaros offense scattered 11 hits including an outstanding 3-for-4 performance by Pirates prospect Freddy Sanchez. Sanchez belted a two-run home run in the eighth inning scoring Peoria's final runs of the game. He was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Kansas City infield prospect Tommy Murphy had the Desert Dogs only hits. Murphy finished the day going 2-for-4. Pitcher Mike Stodolka (KC) was credited with the loss.
