Fantastic Friday: The Javelinas host the Scorpions and the Solar Sox face the Saguaros...first pitch 1:05 pm. The day concludes with a 7:05 first pitch at Scottsdale as the Rafters host the Desert Dogs. The Arizona Fall League is in its 13th season. Each team will play 38 games and the winners of the two divisions will meet in a one-game championship on November 20th at Scottsdale Stadium.
On the hill: Pitchers Kason Gabbard (BOS), Matt Lindstrom (NYM), Mike Johnston (PIT) and Adam Peterson (TOR) held the Desert Dogs to two hits over nine innings on their way to a 7-0 Saguaros victory. Lindstrom earned his first win of the season. The Saguaros offense scattered 11 hits including an outstanding 3-for-4 performance by Pirates prospect Freddy Sanchez. Sanchez belted a two-run home run in the eighth inning scoring Peoria's final runs of the game. He was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Perfection: Diamondbacks prospect Conor Jackson led the Scorpions offense with a 3-for-3 performance including a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the 5-4 win over the Rafters. Tony Gwynn, Jr. (MIL), Jason Repko (LA) and Todd Self (HOU) combined for six of the Scorpions 10 hits. Pitchers Ryan Ketchner (LA), Daylan Childress (CIN), Todd Coffey (CIN), Steve Schmoll (LA) and Jason Bulger (AZ) held the Rafters to four runs, off eight hits over nine combined innings of work. Coffey earned his first win and Bulger was credited with his second save.
Devil Ray's Delight: The Mesa Solar Sox beat the Peoria Javelinas 8-5 Thursday night in a game that saw both teams finish with 13 hits. Tampa Bay prospects Joey Gathright and Delmon Young each had three hits in the win. Young hit a two-run shot to the opposite field that gave Mesa a 3-2 lead in the third inning. Two batters later Brian Dopirak (CHC) followed suit with a two-run home run to extend Mesa's lead to 5-2. The Solar Sox added three more runs in the final innings to secure the win. Pitcher Carlos Hines (TB) earned his second win of the season.
Garret Anderson: The Arizona Fall League continues its tradition of honoring former player and managers by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. Garret Anderson will be in attendance for the Scorpions-Rafters game on Friday, October 29th at Scottsdale Stadium. The induction ceremony will take place prior to the start of the 7:05 pm game.
Tony Peña, Sr.: The Arizona Fall League continues its tradition of honoring former player and managers by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. Tony Peña, Sr. will be in attendance for the Saguaros-Scorpions game on Wednesday, November 3rd at Scottsdale Stadium. The induction ceremony will take place prior to the start of the 7:05 pm game.
ASU Day at the AFL: Show your ASU spirit and receive $1.00 off admission to the Arizona Fall League on Friday, October 29th at Scottsdale Stadium. The ASU baseball team will be in attendance to sign autographs.
Mark Your Calendars: The Fall League will give away 100 Richie Sexson Bobblehead Dolls October 29th at Scottsdale Stadium. Winners will be selected through a lucky number drawing for all fans in attendance.
