June 15, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
ATTENDANCE INCREASE: Attendance at ArenaBowl XX Las Vegas, won 69-61 by the Chicago Rush over the Orlando Predators at the Thomas & Mack Center, was 13,476. The attendance was the highest ever announced for an AFL game at the arena. The previous high was 12,521 when the Las Vegas Gladiators hosted the Tampa Bay Storm on February 17, 2003. The figure also exceeds the attendance for ArenaBowl XIX, which was 10,822 and was also held at Thomas & Mack Center.
CREDENTIAL INCREASE: Media requested 249 credentials for ArenaBowl XX, which was up from 151 for ArenaBowl XIX. Both games were played at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
MORE AWARD WINNERS: In addition to the year-end individual player awards, numerous team and executive awards were handed out at the ArenaBall Awards on Friday night, June 9 at the Mandalay Bay Theatre. The winners were:
Commissioner's Award (Outstanding Organization): Utah Blaze Founder's Award (Lifetime Contribution): Kurt Warner Executive of the Year: Shy Anderson, Dallas Support Staff of the Year: Utah Blaze
INAUGURAL EA SPORTS CHAMPION: J.J. GRUDEN, the son of Orlando Predators head coach JAY GRUDEN, won the inaugural EA Sports ArenaBowl Challenge. Gruden, playing the majority of his games as the Philadelphia Soul, won six games on his way to winning the field that featured 43 participants, including a 60-45 victory over JASON LUCAS, who was playing with the Predators, in the championship.
WORLD RECORD SET: Joey Chestnut, a native of San Jose, California, set a record for most grilled cheese sandwiches eaten when he devoured 47 in 10 minutes at the goldenpalace.com eating contest held during Fan Fest on Saturday, June 10. The previous record was 36.5 by Eater X.
