Antoniuk first Player of the Week

TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced the first edition of the Team of the Week honors for the USL First Division Monday, honoring Atlanta's Dan Antoniuk as the USL-1 Player of the Week. Charlotte's Jacob Coggins took the first Player of the Week honor in the USL Second Division.

A top scorer in Portland, Dan Antoniuk signed just over a year ago with Vancouver and was traded to Montreal before the 2006 season even began. After a three-goal outing in 19 games, Antoniuk found himself traded to Atlanta this past offseason and facing his former club in the season opener.

In the 15th minute, David Hayes sent a free kick into the box and Antoniuk collected the ball in front of the goal and sent it past Montreal's goalkeeper Matt Jordan. The Silverbacks added to their lead in the 62nd minute with another goal by Antoniuk. Rodrigo Rios sent a corner kick in for the Silverbacks. Machel Millwood kept it alive with a header and flicked it further in front of the goal where Antoniuk chest trapped the ball down and volleyed it into the net, putting the Silverbacks up 2-0.

With only three games on the week in the USL Second Division, the lone honor of the week went to Charlotte Eagles striker Jacob Coggins. The two-time league MVP struck twice in the opener to hammer the expansion Crystal Palace Baltimore side 4-1.

After leading the league in scoring the previous two years, Coggins only tallied four in 2006 for Charlotte.
