Jersey Express News Release
Newark, N.J. (Wednesday, July 15, 2009) - Staying true to their commitment of giving professional opportunities to local players, the Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association announced today that they officially inked Antoinne "Cat" Morgano for the 2009-10 season. Signed from a June 20th open tryout, the New Jersey City University product brings both power and an ability to score to the Express.
"Anything well earned shall give you success in return," Morgano commented after getting the nod onto the Express roster. "I look forward to the opportunity."
A native of Irvington, New Jersey, Morgano attended University High School in Newark and averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds per game while running the floor for the Phoenix. He then earned himself a spot onto the roster at New Jersey City University where he contributed seven points on the offensive end of the court.
"Antoinne seems to be a great fit for what we are building with the Jersey Express," Express head coach Quaasim Austin said. "His aggressiveness, slashing ability and nose for the ball should open up great opportunities for him and his teammates. I'm looking forward to working with him to help him achieve whatever goals are within his reach."
The Express recently announced that they will be holding a second open tryout on Saturday, August 22nd. Through their partnership with the Newark Urban Coordinating Council and Network Youth Basketball of Newark, the tryouts will be taking place from 12-4:00 p.m. at the Westside Park Gym in Newark.
"The Jersey Express is looking for local talent to fill the remaining spots on our roster for the 2009-10 season," Express President Marsha Blount stated. "We will be signing players from the August 22nd tryout."
Pre-registration for tryouts is available through the Jersey Express website at www.jerseyexpress.net, and the cost for early registration is $75. The fee on the day of tryouts will be $100, with only cash being accepted that day. Players interested in trying out should wear basketball attire and be prepared to do a number of drills that will focus on both skill and overall knowledge of the game. As more information is made available regarding tryouts, it will be posted to the Express website.
