London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, ON) The London Lightning got another win tonight as they won against the Sudbury FIVE 124 to 107. The Lightning came out hot once again finishing the first quarter out with a 44 to 21 lead. After that they did not look back and kept going at Sudbury. The FIVE tried to push back but London kept them down and closed the game out in solid fashion. The win puts the Lightning back at .500 with a 16 and 16 record on the year.
The Lightning continued playing their high energy, ball movement style of basketball and it has been working for them for the past 4 games. The offense was rolling especially their three point shooting where they shot 17 of 35 for the game. Almost half of their 3's came in the first quarter where they shot the light's out going 8-13. The team overall shot 52% from the field as a whole. Sudbury didn't have a bad game at all going 46% from the field they just couldn't stop the Lightning. London took advantage of the turnovers of the FIVE dropping 27 points off turnovers compared to Sudbury's 16.
The team has been out to prove a point, winning the past 4 games and 3 of them in confident fashion. They finished the game tonight winning by 17 points but that was not telling of the first half where the Lightning were ahead 75 to 39. 6 players scored in double figures tonight with AJ Gaines dropping 25, Marcus Capers with 18, Marvin Phillips with 15, Bolden 15, and Alex Johnson finishing it off with 10. AJ has been hot and efficient shooting 9 of 11 from the field tonight. Mo Bolden had the line of the night finishing the game with a triple-double tallying his 14 points with 10 assists, 10 rebounds, not to mention 2 blocks for the game.
The head coach for the Lightning Elliott Etherington talked about the teams performance stating that "It sounds simple to say but we have to continue to repeat the effort we have had the past four games in the first quarter coming out and really setting a pace and tone that we can keep going over the course of a game...playing our game and not worrying about what other teams want to do." The first quarter has been big for the Lightning, starting the game strong each of the past four games. The high energy and hustle out of the gate isn't what the other teams have been ready for and it has shown in the past four games.
The Lightning will play again tomorrow afternoon, Sunday Febraury 17th, 2019 when the Lightning take on the KW Titans. The team is going to look to continue this winning streak with a victory again tomorrow. For tickets to any upcoming games, visit the Budweiser Gardens Box Office or go to www.lightningbasketball.ca.
