Another CFL Record for Calvillo
Published on August 4, 2011 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
TORONTO -- (Thursday, August 4) - Montreal Alouettes' quarterback Anthony Calvillo has set another Canadian Football League career record.
In the first quarter of tonight's game against the Toronto Argonauts, Calvillo connected with Brandon London on a 18-yard pass for his 5,159th career pass completion, surpassing the previous record held by Damon Allen.
Allen discussed Calvillo's strengths as a quarterback during a conference call in July.
"He's been a true passer, in every sense of the word," remarked Allen. "Anthony's good in the area of intelligence, understanding the game. He doesn't panic in situations. He knows where his second and third receivers are. ... And he throws the football way more than I did."
In week three of the regular season, Calvillo broke Allen's career passing touchdowns record, throwing his 395th touchdown pass to Eric Deslauriers at home against the Argos. Calvillo is still in pursuit of two other league records held by Allen: career passing yards and pass attempts. He went into tonight's game needing 2,735 passing yards and 931 pass attempts to surpass Allen's remaining records.
