Texas Tornado News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - (February 7, 2011) - The Texas Tornado present the third annual Pink in the Rink hockey game on Saturday, February 12th as the Tornado host the Amarillo Bulls at 7:30pm at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. The Tornado have partnered with the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Frisco to dedicate the game to raising money for cancer awareness. "The Pink in the Rink night is always a special one," said Head Coach Tony Curtale. "It has special meaning to our players and is always one of the more memorable games of the year."
During the game, the Tornado will be wearing special pink jerseys, which will then be auctioned off following the game. A portion of the proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit Relay for Life. "Relay For Life Frisco is extremely excited to partner with the Texas Tornado again this year," says Renee Sinclair, 2011 Special Events Coordinator. "The organization's efforts to make this fundraiser a success for the American Cancer Society is outstanding and has always generated great revenue for us." Twenty-percent of net proceeds from all ticket sales, pink merchandise and specialty pink jerseys benefit American Cancer Society Relay For Life Frisco.
A wide assortment of goods and services will also be up for silent auction. These items have been generously donated by local businesses and 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Tickets for Saturday's Pink in the Rink game are still available and can be purchased by stopping by or calling the Tornado office at 972-335-9800. The game is part of the Tornado FAM-TASTIC month, where fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs, four chips and four Dr Pepper's for just $40 for any home game during the entire month of February.
The night also will allow the Tornado to honor and celebrate the life of Lisa Flowers, a long-time Tornado fan and a former billet parent to many former Tornado players in past seasons. Lisa and her husband JC, along with their two children opened their home to several Tornado players over a five year span. Lisa loved the sport of hockey and treated the Tornado players as if they were her own. Lisa lost her battle with breast cancer in the fall of 2009, but legacy lives on through the Flowers Cup. The Flowers Cup is awarded to the winner of the annual Pink in the Rink game, and is an ongoing tribute to Lisa's battle with cancer and her lasting legacy.
