Alexandria,Minn - The Alexandria Blue Anchors, a member of the Northwoods League, have announced the signing of C/1B Ricky Sanchez.
Sanchez, a sophomore at The University of Notre Dame has appeared in 13 games so far this spring for the Irish. He is hitting .258, with 2 triples. In 2013 he hit .241 in 33 games. He was mostly used as a defensive replacement late in games to catch All-American closer Dan Slania. During his prep career his team was named CABA World Series National Champions and also the Perfect Game National Champions.
"We are excited to bring Ricky onboard for the 2014 season," said GM Kendall Hughson. "He is a hard working kid that plays well behind the plate and has some pop at the plate."
Born September 16, 1993, he is originally from Miami, FL and is the son of Rick and Carmen Sanchez. Away from the field he enjoys playing video games and working out, when not working towards his American Studies degree.
"I'm really looking forward to playing for the Alexandria Blue Anchors," said Sanchez. "The Northwoods League is one of the best in the country and I'm excited to compete and have a good summer experience."
The Blue Anchors will start the 2014 season on Tuesday May 27th at home versus the Mankato MoonDogs.
