Allen Americans News Release

Allen, Texas -The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, fell to the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday night by a score of 3-1 at the Allen Event Center.

Right from the start, the game was fast paced and physical. The Grizzlies opened the scoring early in the first period with a power-play goal, on a deflected shot from the point. The Americans were able to answer with a goal of their own, scored by Casey Pierro-Zabotel, his 15th of the season. Utah added another power-play goal to finish the period up 2-1.

Neither team scored in the second frame, so the Americans would head to the third period down by a goal. It remained a one-goal game until the 11:02 mark of the third, when Austin Ortega followed up a rebound, beating Jeremy Brodeur from the right circle to extend the lead to 3-1. Utah would hold on for the victory sending the Americans to their fifth loss in their last six outings. Shots on goal were also in favor of Utah by a total of 35-33.

"Mistakes hurt us again tonight," said Americans defenseman Mike Gunn. 'We haven't been able to put together a solid 60 minutes since our back to back wins over Colorado. It's disappointing that we didn't play better in front of a packed house tonight.

The Americans travel to Kansas City next weekend to meet the Mavericks on Friday and Saturday night. Allen returns home to Allen Event Center on March 2nd and 3rd against Rapid City.

They Said It - Casey Pierro-Zabotel

Question: Obviously another tough loss for you guys what went wrong tonight?

Pierro-Zabotel: "I think we didn't play they way we wanted to play tonight. Took a couple of bad penalties and couldn't get the kill early on in the first period there. I thought we just needed to get more traffic and more shots."

Question: You guys gave up several power play goals this weekend. What do you think needs to be improved when it comes to the penalty kill?

Pierro-Zabotel : "I think we need to simplify try to block shots, get pucks out and overall just stop taking penalties."
