Allen Americans News Release

Laredo, Texas - The Allen Americans completed their four game set against the Laredo Bucks Saturday night on the road in south Texas. Allen has been stymied by the Bucks lately, dropping their last three meetings and giving the Bucks the 6-4 season series lead but Saturday night the Americans put one in the win column.

The first period was scoreless with the Americans outshooting the Bucks 13-7. Allen stopped two Bucks power plays but were unable to score on their lone man advantage in the opening frame.

The period was only a dozen seconds old when Laredo's Justin Styffe was sent off for roughing, but he didn't get much time to rest. Just 18 seconds into the power play and for the second night in a row, it was Colton Yellow Horn capitalizing on the power play for Allen. Yellow Horn's 23rd goal of the season came at the 30 second mark of the period, assisted by Keith Johnson in just his second game back after a lengthy absence due to injury. The Bucks however answered right back when Dan Inman scored off a feed from Ryan Sparling at 1:55 to tie the game 1-1. The Laredo goal sparked the Americans to pick up the pace, which is what they did for the remainder of the period. Allen grabbed back the lead when Scott Langdon fired one from the point at 6:38, assisted by Trevor Hendrikx. Then Jim McKenzie gave the Americans some breathing room, extending the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal at 17:06, assisted by Mark Nebus. Allen doubled Laredo in shots on goal 18-9 in the middle frame, compiling a two period total of 31-16 and going 2 for 3 on the power play while blanking Laredo's two power play tries.

The Bucks cut the Americans lead to 3-2 early in the third period when Adam Rivet's neutral zone dump pass took an odd high bounce off the ice and over the glove hand of Allen netminder Rejean Beauchemin at 1:11. Laredo then capitalized on the power play at 7:10, scoring their second unanswered goal when Trevor Hunt lit the lamp on a screen shot, assisted by Ryan Sparling to tie the game 3-3. Americans captain Jason Deitsch then led the charge for Allen, scoring on a breakaway assisted by Scott Langdon and Jarret Lukin to give Allen back the lead, 4-3 at 11:48. Laredo was given a late 5 minute power play allowing Matt Boyd to find the back of the net and tie the game once again for Laredo, 4-4. Laredo's Neil Trimm and Trevor Hunt were credited with the assists on the Boyd goal. At the end of regulation, the score remained tied 4-4 with Laredo outshooting Allen 12-4 in the period for a three period total of 35-28 in favor of Allen.

Heading to overtime, Laredo continued with the man advantage for 2:55 due to the carry over of the major penalty assessed to Mark Nebus late in the third period. Both teams managed a pair of shots on net in the overtime period but neither could find the back of the net so the game went to shootout.

In the shootout, Erik Boisvert was the lone goal scorer for Laredo while Jim McKenzie and Brian McMillin netted a pair for Allen, giving the Americans the 5-4 victory.

The Americans now head back home to begin a two game set against the Quad City Mallards Tuesday and Thursday night. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM Tuesday night at the Allen Event Center.
