ATLANTA (August 21, 2002) -- The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) announced today that American Idol's RJ Helton will perform the national anthem at the Women's Pro Soccer Championship Game, Founders Cup II, this Saturday at Herndon Stadium in downtown Atlanta, just three blocks from the Georgia Dome.

RJ, a 21-year-old native of Cumming, Ga., was a finalist on the popular FOX television show, American Idol, until he was voted off last week.

"American Idol's loss is our gain," said Lynn Morgan, president and CEO of the WUSA. "We think RJ is quite talented and we're thrilled to give him another chance to perform on a national stage."

The 4 p.m. game and RJ's performance of the national anthem will be televised live on PAX-TV.

Founders Cup II will feature Mia Hamm and the Washington Freedom vs. Carla Overbeck and the Carolina Courage. Tickets are going fast and can be purchased through any TicketMaster outlet or by calling 1-877-SOCCER-1.
