Pensacola 9, Shreveport-Bossier 7
With one run already in off of Pensacola closer Seth Overbey and two runners on with no outs, Shreveport-Bossier appeared poised to extend the game into extra innings and possibly end the Pelicans' season. But a huge double play on 3B Andres Rodriguez' attempted sacrifice ensured that a game five would be played Sunday. The man who started the double play, Pensacola 1B Javier Brito, was the hero on offense, scoring the Pelicans' first run on a Lou Palmisano RBI double and adding a three-run home run as part of Pensacola's big five-run fifth. Pensacola added two insurance runs in the eighth on a Kyle Brown RBI double, who later scored on Adolfo Gonzalez' single to left. 1B Christopher Garcia led the Captains' offense with a 3-for-4 night and two RBI.
The decisive game of the best-of-five series will be played Sunday at 6:05 PM CST at Pensacola. Game 1 winner Richard Salazar will take the hill for Shreveport-Bossier, while Game 2 starting pitcher Jared Gothreaux will pitch on three days rest for Pensacola. Sunday's winner advances to face Sioux Falls in the American Association Championship Series, which begins Tuesday night.
