American Airlines Renews Partnership as the Official Airline of Major League Soccer

NEW YORK (Monday, January 12, 2009) - Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing, MLS' marketing arm, today announced a partnership extension with American Airlines. The agreement renews the airline's status as the Official Airline of Major League Soccer and SuperLiga, an annual tournament in the United States pitting MLS teams versus Mexican First Division clubs. American Airlines is the League's inaugural airline sponsor and has been an MLS partner since the beginning of the 2008 season. The 2009 Major League Soccer season kicks off March 19 while SuperLiga will take place during the summer of 2009.

"MLS is extremely pleased to renew its relationship with American Airlines," said Doug Quinn, President of Soccer United Marketing. "Both parties will continue to build on a strong partnership that began last year. American Airlines' commitment to MLS, SuperLiga and the sport of soccer makes them a first-class partner."

American Airlines will continue to receive exclusive onsite promotional rights at annual MLS special events including the Pepsi MLS All-Star Game, MLS Cup, as well as all SuperLiga matches. As an official partner of MLS and SuperLiga, American Airlines will also be entitled to targeted marketing and promotional rights, including use of MLS League and collective team marks, as well as SuperLiga intellectual property. In addition, match tickets, player appearances, advertisements in MLS publications, in-stadium field boards and online presence at www.MLSnet.com and www.SuperLiga2009.com round out the integrated partnership. American Airlines also has club-specific partnerships with the Chicago Fire, D.C. United, FC Dallas and the New York Red Bulls.
