Published on January 12, 2024 under Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) News Release
Saint Charles, Missouri - The St. Louis Ambush fell 5-2 to the Milwaukee Wave Friday night at The Family Arena. The loss dropped the Ambush to 1-6-2 (wins-losses-overtime losses) on the season, while the Wave improved to 6-2-1.
Milwaukee got on the board first when Alex Sanchez placed a high shot out of reach of Ambush goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento in the third minute of the match. In the eighth minute, St. Louis earned a blue card for too many men on the field, giving the Wave a power play. The visitors made good on the opportunity when Tony Walls scored just over a minute later. Milwaukee got another power play when St. Louis' Christian Briggs was sent off for tripping in the eleventh minute. St. Louis successfully killed off that penalty and kept the Wave from scoring for the remainder of the first quarter, which elapsed with the Wave leading 2-0.
The blue card storm continued to rain on St. Louis in the second minute of the second period when Briggs was penalized for contact above the shoulder, resulting in a penalty kick by Marcio Leite, who made it 3-0. Nascimento came far out of position in an effort to help the offense, resulting in Milwaukee's Mario Alvarez scoring an empty netter in the sixth minute. At halftime, Milwaukee enjoyed a 4-0 lead.
In the twelfth minute of the third frame, St. Louis went on a power play when Milwaukee's Salvador Nunez was sent to the sin bin for foul accumulation. Briggs scored for the Ambush with a top-shelf shot, shaving the score to 4-1.
Each team scored ten seconds apart in near the midway point of the fourth quarter. Troy Morrison scored for the Wave, followed by Triston Austin for St. Louis. Both goals were unassisted and made the score 5-2. Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the contest, giving the visitors the win.
