
Amarillo Venom to Shift Gears, Take on LEXFA All-Stars in 2014 International Championship

AMARILLO, Texas - The Amarillo Venom will switch out from their typical Lone Star Football League schedule to host a special International Championship game on March 23 against the Liga Extrema de Football Arena Mexico, A.C. (LEXFA) All-Stars. The contest will take place at the Cal Farley Coliseum in the Amarillo Civic Center with a 4:05 p.m. kickoff.
Leading the Amarillo Venom will be quarterback and LSFL offensive player of the week Brendan Crawford, who completed 19 passes on 29 attempts while throwing for 257 yards and six touchdowns against New Mexico last weekend. The other main contributors for the defending LSFL champions are wide receiver DJ Beshears, defensive back Ron Evans, Jr. and LSFL Special Teams player of the week, Jose Chavez. Chavez was perfect in all nine field goal attempts against the Stars, with ten kickoffs averaging more than 46 yards per kick.
For the LEXFA All-Stars, quarterback Raúl Mateos will be leading the squad from Mexico City. Mateos previously had playing time with the Mexican national American Football team, which was prominently featured in the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) World Cup. An MIT graduate, Mateos has also played for the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe and plied his trade in Mexico and abroad.
Along with Mateos, the LEXFA All-Stars will compromise of the best players and coaches from 40 teams in three divisions.
As both squads collide on March 23, this contest will serve as a measuring stick for both the LEXFA All-Stars and the Amarillo Venom in their upcoming campaigns.
