Amarillo Venom News Release
Bossier City, LA 7/4/09 - The Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings defeated the Amarillo Dusters 62-27 in front of 2,422 fans at the CenturyTel Center Saturday night, moving Amarillo's record to 2-12 on the season.
The first score of the game began with controversy, as Battle Wings quarterback ANDRICO HINES hooked up with wide receiver P.J. BERRY on a 14-yard scoring strike with 9:17 remaining in 1st quarter. Covering Berry on the play was Dusters defensive back KENDRICK WALKER. Walker pushed Berry after the play. Game officials decided to throw out Walker for his action. The Dusters answered right back with a 1-yard touchdown run from quarterback JULIAN REESE, but kicker SINISHA VRVILIO missed the extra point attempt to make a 7-6 game. The Dusters were outscored 20-7 in the second quarter, as the Battle Wings received contributions from P.J. Berry, full back JASON SCHULE, and P.J. Berry again. Berry ended the first half with a 57-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to give the Wings a 27-13 lead going into the locker room.
The Battle Wings owned the 3rd quarter outscoring the Dusters 28-0, continuing a 35-0 run that started in the 1st half. P.J. Berry started the 3rd quarter dominance with a 4-yard touchdown run to make it a 34-13 game. Wings' defensive lineman DANNIE SNYDER picked up a CARLOS DOWNEY fumble and ran it in from 5 yards out to extend the Battle Wings lead to 41-13. Four minutes later, Jason Schule added his 2nd rushing touchdown of the night (and league leading 20th of the season) to give the Wings' a 48-13 lead. Defensive back Pierre Lee ended the 35-0 run with a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown to push the Battle Wings' lead to 55-13 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Dusters scored two touchdowns (7-yard pass to wide receiver DuVaughn FLAGLER and a 5- yard touchdown pass to JOHN KING) in the 4th quarter, but it was too little, as the Battle Wings had dominated the previous 3 quarters.
The Dusters will return to action July 18th to take on the Stockton Lightning at 7pm in their home season finale. Dollar menu night will be in effect, as all fans will be welcome to dollar hot dogs, popcorn, and soda. Show tickets start as low as $10. To purchase those show tickets, call 806.350.PASS.
