Rockford Thunder News Release
February 25, 2009 - ROCKFORD - The Rockford Thunder has re-signed veteran outfielder Amanda Williams, team General Manager Aaron M. Moore announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal was not released.
Williams, 25, will be playing her third season with the Thunder in 2009 after beginning her career with the Chicago Bandits. She enters this season as a .222 career hitter, with 66 hits in 296 at-bats. She has 14 career stolen bases, eight doubles and 30 runs scored. Williams' best season in the NPF thus far came in 2008 when she set career highs in runs scored (13), doubles (4) and walks (8).
"I am excited to resign with the Thunder for the '09 season. This is my third year in a Thunder uniform and I feel that Rockford has become a home for me," said Williams. "I am eager to get back on the ball field and hope to bring a Championship to Rockford."
"I am happy to be playing in front of the great fans that we have in Rockford and I believe that the staff has done an excellent job of fielding a competitive team."
"We're excited that Amanda decided to return for the 2009 season," said Moore. "With the recent addition of Shanel Scott and the players we picked up in the draft, we feel our outfield continues to get stronger. A-Will's veteran leadership out there will be a big part of our success this season."
The signing of Williams leaves the current Thunder roster at 12 players. She joins infielders Lindsay Gardner, Jamie Davison, Lyndsey Angus and Chelsea Spencer; outfielders Shanna Diller and Shanel Scott, catcher Megan Willis and pitchers Cat Osterman, Megan Brown, Cassidy Scoggins and Allison Kime. The Thunder also added five players in last week's NPF Senior Draft, but those athletes are not eligible to sign contracts until after they complete their respective college seasons.
