Alyssa Wohlfeiler, Original NWHL Player with Connecticut, Returns to the Whale

DANBURY, CT - After a highly productive season as a member of the regular season champions, the Boston Pride, forward Alyssa Wohlfeiler has returned to the Connecticut Whale - her team when she played in the inaugural season of the NWHL.

"I've heard nothing but great things about [head coach] Colton Orr and the entire staff, and I really enjoyed my conversations with Colton," said Wohlfeiler. "I am humbled that he wants me to be part of the Whale to help continue to move the organization in the right direction. It's going to be a fun and competitive season and especially entertaining for our loyal fans. We cannot thank the Whale fans, and all NWHL fans, enough for your continued support."

In her one season in Boston, Wohlfeiler made a significant impact. Despite missing some time with an injury, she scored 5 goals and had 11 assists for 16 points in just 14 games. On a team stacked with high-level forwards, Wohlfeiler was tied with Lexie Laing for fifth on the Pride with a point-per-game average of 1.1. She also had an assist in the Pride's victory over Connecticut in the Isobel Cup Semifinal.

Prior to playing for Boston last season, Wohlfeiler - a former captain at Northeastern - played the previous two seasons in Europe. In 2018-19, the California native led EC Bergkamener Bären of the Frauen-Bundesliga in Germany in scoring, with 55 points (29-26-55) in 27 games. Upon her return to the NWHL a year ago, Wohlfeiler remarked about the growth of the NWHL in the time she was away.

"Having played in Europe, I've had fans tell me that they have specifically traveled to the U.S. just to be able to watch an NWHL game in person," said Wohlfeiler. "When I was in California, I had another fan at a 5:00 am stick time tell me he watched games online. So the league is definitely reaching fan bases all over the world and it's really exciting to think about the potential of women's hockey right now."

With the Whale in the NWHL's first season in 2015-16, she recorded three goals and four assists in 17 games.

In her career, Wohlfeiler has also played for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League, Lugano of the SWHL, and HV71 of the SDHL. At Northeastern, she was 32-39-71 in 133 games.

"Alyssa has proven to be a dominant forward who uses her size to her advantage and has a great shot," said Whale GM Bray Ketchum. "We are excited to welcome her back to the Whale."
