Alpena MI: The Alpena IceDiggers split the first two games of its staggered three-game series with the U.S. National Team Development Program.
Tuesday night in Ann Arbor, the Under-18 squad took a 6-3 win. Eric Roman (West Bloomfield Hills MI), Evan West (Marysville MI) scored his first Jr. "A" goal in the defeat, Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) also scored for the IceDiggers. Chris Hendrickson (Hancock MI) tacked on two assists and Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Hts. MI) made 22 saves.
Last night, Alpena scored three times in the third period to rally for a 4-3 win. Nolan Craner (Plainwell MI) and Todd Rudasill (Powell OH) each had a goal and an assist to go along with single goals from Ben Kitzmiller (Lambertville MI) and Jimmy McCusker (Novi MI) scored his first NAHL goal. Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park MI) finished with 23 saves in net.
Former Olympic men's ice hockey coach Lou Vairo (1984 team) will be in attendance at tomorrow nights game when the IceDiggers host the USA U-17 team. Mr. Vairo will drop the ceremonial first puck.
