Alpena earns road win on Saturday

Alpena MI: After dropping Friday night's game the Alpena IceDiggers came back to earn two very important points on Saturday with a 2-1 win over the Mahoning Valley Phantoms in Broadman OH.

Jon Puskar opened the games scoring with the man advantage, assists went to Russ Anderson and Bryan Ross.

JC Gulch netted the game winner on the power play mid way through the second period, Erik Peterson picked up the helper.

Mahoning Valley cut the lead in half but netminder Nate Pellegrino closed the door the rest of the night making 26 saves on 27 shots to pick up his 10th win of the season.

With the win the IceDiggers remain one game above the 500. mark with a record of 12-11-1 for 25 points. "We played well both nights a few breaks here or there and Friday could have been a different outcome on Saturday we played hard and were able to get two important points." said head coach Kenny Miller

The IceDiggers return to the Northern Lights Arena this Thurday night (December 6th) at 7:00PM to take on the USA U-17 team. "It is nice to finally get back and play in front of our fans, I know the guys are excited to get back and play at home." added Miller

NOTES: Forward Russ Anderson returned to the line up after missing 9 straight games with a shoulder injury. Anderson picked up an assist in Saturday's win.

Cheboygan native Isaac Viau has been named assistant captain by head coach Kenny Miller.

IceDigger players will be at the Wal-Mart on M-32 the next two Wednesday's ringing the bell for the Salvation Army from 9:00AM-12:00PM.
