First Half-Week Standouts: High Point's Michael Russell collected six hits vs. Lexington (7/20), the most by an ALPB player this year... Russell also became the ALPB's second player to hit for the cycle, joining Luke Becker (6/26)... SMD's Daryl Thompson earned his 10th win of the season with a 4-3 win over Long Island on 7/20... LEX's Rusber Estrada went 5-for-7 with five runs scored and two homers vs. High Point... Alejandro De Aza of Long Island had nine hits vs. Southern Maryland... Kentucky's Diogenes Almengo had a pair of saves vs. Staten Island... GAS's Jack Reinheimer had four hits, two doubles an HR and three BB vs. York 7/19... Alejandro De Aza had four hits vs. SMD on 7/20... LAN's West Tunnell struck out four hitters in 1.1 innings of work vs. Charleston (7/19)... Hector Guance fanned 11 in 4.2 innings vs. Kentucky on 7/20... LEX's Thomas Dorminy struck out eight Rockers in 5.2 innings (7/21).
Second Half-Week Standouts: YRK's Melky Mesa was 6-for-8 with four doubles in two games vs. Lancaster over the weekend while teammate Nellie Rodriguez hit three homers and drove in eight runs... Sam Travis and Deibinson Romero hit back-to-back homers vs. SMD on 7/22... Dilson Herrera (SI) had a grand slam and five RBI in a win over Lexington (7/24)... Engel Beltre (CWV) smashed four hits including two doubles vs. KY on 7/24... L.J. Mazzilli and Carlos Castro (LI) each had four-hit games vs. SMD on 7/24... David Harris and Jared Walker (SMD) each had two homers and five RBI vs. LI on 7/24... Lancaster's Ariel Sandoval drove in five runs vs. York 7/24... York's Jorge Martinez fanned nine in seven innings vs. LAN on 7/22.
Long At-Bats: HP's Dakota Mulcay faced 12 pitches from GAS's Mason McAlister before striking out 7/23.
Team Pitching: Staten Island tied the league-high for the year when it fanned 17 Genomes on 7/20.
Batting Masters: GAS's Jack Reinheimer and Reece Hampton celebrated their birthdays on 7/19 by combining to collect six hits, two homers and four RBI...Gastonia's Hampton, Reinheimer and Joseph Rosa hit back-to-back-to-back homers at York on 7/20... LAN's Melvin Mercedes homered in three straight games 7/20-22... Mercedes is riding the ALPB's longest hitting streak of the year at 21 games with GAS's Zach Jarrett right behind him at 19.
League Leaders: SMD's Daryl Thompson became the first ALPB pitcher to 10 wins when he beat Long Island 7/20... Alejandro De Aza of Long Island is hitting .407 this month and has moved into the batting lead at .352 with David Harris of SMD in second at .346... LEX's Courtney Hawkins became the first ALPB hitter to clear 30 homers on the year and currently has 31.
Anomalies: High Point pitchers walked 15 Lexington hitters, tying the season-high in the ALPB... Five pitchers have thrown 120 or more pitches in a game this season and all are Blue Crabs... Mitch Lambson has three games including a league-high 131 pitches vs. York on 6/2... Daryl Thompson also has a pair of 120+ pitch games... SMD overcame a 7-0 deficit to beat LI 11-10 on 7/21.
Grand Slams: Dilson Herrera of Staten Island vs. Lexington 7/24... Jack Sundberg (SMD) vs. Long Island 7/24... Ben Aklinski of High Point vs. Lexington (7/20) and Gastonia (7/24).
How about that?: Long Island pitcher Joe Iorio had two hits including a homer vs. SMD 7/20... Iorio is the only ALPB pitcher with a HR this year... Telvin Nash rejoined York on 7/17 and in his first seven games hit four home runs and seven RBI... Nash has 98 homers with the Revs... High Point's Michael Russell had six hits vs. Lexington on 7/20, the most hits by an ALPB player since Sean Burroughs of Bridgeport had six vs. New Britain on 8/19/2017.
Off-Field: Long Island drew 7,011 to its 7/23 game against SMD at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Records: York's Melky Mesa hit his 65th homer as a Rev to rank third in club history on 7/19...
Walk-Offs: Southern Maryland walked-off Long Island on 7/19 on an Alex Crosby single... A single from Nellie Rodriguez led to York's walk-off win over Lancaster 7/24... High Point's Ben Aklinski hit a walk-off grand slam in a win over Gastonia 7/24.
Milestones: SMD's Mat Latos recorded his 1,500th career strikeout vs. Long Island on 7/19... HP's Quincy Latimore earned his 1,000th career RBI vs. Lexington 7/21.
