
Alliance of American Football Announces Signing of Trent Richardson to Alliance Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Alliance of American Football announced today that running back Trent Richardson has signed a player contract with Alliance Birmingham.
The 5-9, 225-pound Richardson joins The Alliance after spending the first four professional seasons of his career in the National Football League and the Canadian Football League. Over the course of his NFL career, he appeared in 46 games with 37 starts. A dual threat out of the backfield, Richardson amassed 2,032 rushing yards on 614 carries (3.3 yard per carry average) and 17 touchdowns. He also pulled in 113 receptions for 912 yards and two touchdowns. Richardson was selected in the first round, third overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft.
As a rookie in 2012 Richardson started all 15 games in which he appeared and compiled a team high 950 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns while also catching 51 passes for 367 yards and a touchdown. Richardson's rookie rushing total topped all AFC rookies and was third among all NFL rookies. Richardson's rushing yards and touchdown totals set Cleveland rookie records, surpassing Jim Brown's 942 yards rushing and nine rushing touchdowns set in 1957. His 1,317 yards from scrimmage placed him third among NFL rookies while also setting a Browns single-season record. In 2013, two games into his second campaign in Cleveland, the Browns traded Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2014 first round pick. Over the course of the 2013-14 seasons, Richardson appeared in 29 games for the Colts and would rush 316 times for 977 yards and six touchdowns, while recording 55 receptions for 494 yards and one touchdown. Richardson was released by the Colts on March 12, 2015. Richardson would go on to sign with the Oakland Raiders and the later the Baltimore Ravens, however he would not appear in a regular season game for either team. In 2017, Richardson joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League and appeared in four games carrying the ball 48 times for 259 yards and two touchdowns.
Richardson played 38 career games with 15 in a starting role over three seasons at the University of Alabama while helping the Crimson Tide win two National Championships. Richardson completed his collegiate career with 540 carries for 3,130 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also hauled in 64 receptions for 730 yards and seven scores. Richardson was named a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011 and was awarded the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the nation's most outstanding running back. He was named SEC Offensive player of the year in 2011 and earned unanimous first-team All-SEC honors.
