
Alex Woodall Surpasses Expectations in First Year

Boston, MA - Due to excellence on the season and massive potential going into the 2020 season, Alex Woodall of the Atlanta Blaze was ranked as MLL's top faceoff specialist. The accolades rack up for Atlanta Blaze rookie Alex Woodall. Major League Lacrosse All-Star, Blaze single season record holder for faceoffs won and groundballs secured, and finally 2019 MLL Rookie of the Year. The expectations were high for Woodall, the first overall pick in the 2019 MLL Draft, coming into 2019 and he delivered. Let's take a look back at Woodall's amazing first season with the Blaze.
The Numbers:
Woodall finished the season with a faceoff percentage of 50%. The Towson product led MLL with 140 groundballs this season. Woodall also got involved on the offensive end scoring three goals and adding four points.
Defining Moment:
Woodall's finest moment of his rookie campaign came on August 4th at Silverbacks Stadium. Woodall and the Blaze fell that night to the Dallas Rattlers, but Woodall wasn't the problem. Woodall went 26-33 at the faceoff X for a percentage of 79%. Woodall picked up 19 groundballs and added a goal against the Rattlers.
Looking Ahead:
Woodall is slated to return to the Blaze next season. He led the Blaze to the franchise's first ever playoff appearance before falling to the Boston Cannons 17-15 in the MLL Semifinals. The Blaze are in a good spot heading into free agency with guys like Liam Byrnes, Shayne Jackson, Randy Staats, and Brendan Sunday all under contract heading into the 2020 season.
