ATLANTA, GA - The Atlanta Blaze organization is proud to announce that Towson University faceoff specialist Alex Woodall has officially signed with the Atlanta Blaze of Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

Alex Woodall was the #1 overall pick in the 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft on March 9th. The Blaze obtained Woodall's rights when they selected him in the MLL Rookie Selection on April 26th.

"We are thrilled to have Alex as a member of the Atlanta Blaze," said Head Coach Liam Banks. "Alex is one of the best faceoff specialists in the world. I have watched him closely for the last three years and have seen his development both physically and mentally."

Woodall's domination on the field was key to his Towson program's #1 ranking in the country earlier this year. It was the first time Towson was #1 nationally in school history. In 2019, Woodall won 74.2% of faceoffs, finishing second in Division I. That percentage is the fifth highest in the past decade, behind only two other players. Woodall also won every matchup he had, finishing better than 50% in every game he played this year.

Blaze Director of Player Personnel Spencer Ford could not be more excited to have "The Big Cat" in Atlanta: "Alex is a top faceoff man, outstanding off the ground, high-level in transition, a leader, and a great teammate! The next generation of the faceoff position will be wearing #3 for the Blaze, and we are extremely excited."

With a full year under new ownership, a new home field downtown in Grady Stadium, and new additions to the roster like Woodall, the future for the organization has never been brighter. "The Atlanta Blaze is taking great steps both on and off the field," said Ford. "We care a great deal about our players. We want to put them in a position to succeed in both lacrosse and their personal lives."

The Atlanta Blaze will kick off the 2019 season on Sunday, June 2 at 4 p.m. against the defending champion Denver Outlaws. All eight Atlanta Blaze home games are at Grady Stadium in Midtown Atlanta. Single-game tickets are on sale now at AtlantaBlaze.com/Tickets.
