Albany Legends News Release

Albany, New York - The IBL's Albany Legends have announced today that Albany Legend, and former area high school phenom Lloyd Johnson has been selected to return to the team in 2011. Johnson was the back-up point guard to Kenny Satterfield (Cincinnati) on the International Basketball League's 2010 Championship Team.

"I am thrilled that Lloyd has agreed to return in 2011," Head Coach Ben Smith said in an interview Tuesday. "Lloyd is planning on coming back to secure the lead point guard role, and I have every intention of letting him battle for the top spot. If you look back at the box scores and watch the game-film from last season, he obviously learned a lot (under Satterfield) and took great pride in his role. He was always on the floor at the end of every game, which means you can't ignore him as a coach. I like guys like that."

Johnson, who played a short time at Schenectady County Community College, has had to fight for his role on several teams, most recently the one he earned in 2010. Johnson was a standout at Albany High, and has stayed in the area working for this next season, in hopes of earning himself a better-paying position as a player. He most recently has played with the Hudson Valley Hype, an EBA team that primarily plays teams from the Northeast region of the United States.

"Lloyd, from the game films, is for all intensive purposes a pro athlete and a pro player that should be overseas making a solid contract." Smith added "We hope that he can continue to build on his performance from last year and add consistency to his game, making him a much more viable option for an overseas contract. The veteran presence of EJ {Gallup} and a few of the other anticipated players here in 2011 should help him learn the game even more completely."

"I'm very happy to be back to defend our title and try to bring another one to Albany" Johnson said. "...this is my home town, and it's going to be fun playing in front of all my family and friends again. We have a new home court, new coach, and a couple of new players, but we're all going to have the same goal... to win another championship."
