Albany Dutchmen News Release
ALBANY - The Albany Dutchmen (1-2) lost to the Amsterdam Mohawks (1-2) at Bob Bellizzi Field on Sunday night, 1-0. It was a night of missed opportunities for the Dutchmen who struggled with men in scoring position.
The Dutchmen had a chance to take an early lead in the first inning with a lead off walk and stolen base by shortstop Brandon Trinkwon. Albany's opportunity was quickly put to rest however after Trinkwon was thrown out trying to advance to home on a single by outfielder Andrew Deeds.
After three scoreless innings, the Amsterdam Mohawks scored the only run of the game with an RBI single by catcher Parker Morin. Dutchmen starting pitcher Steve Poche quickly rebounded after the hit, stranding two Mohawks to keep the score at 1-0. Poche finished with 4.1 innings pitched, two strikeouts, three hits and one earned run.
The story after the game's solo run was the Dutchmen's missed chances with men in scoring position. Albany stranded men on second base in the third, fifth, and sixth inning and left a man on third in the eighth and ninth inning.
Austin Chase was spectacular in relief for Albany, he went 4.2 innings allowing one hit and no runs. The winning pitcher was Brett Houseal for the Mohawks and Abram Williams recorded the save. The game moved very quickly finishing in two hours and 33 minutes.
