Aiken now the Foxhounds

Aiken Foxhounds News Release

AIKEN, SC- Will it be the Aiken Stampede? What about the Horseflies? Better yet, how about the Foxhounds!?

The newly formed Aiken Professional Baseball Club is proud to announce that they have found an identity, thanks to Nathan Paschal. His submission of the name "Foxhounds" was chosen from over 1,000 entries in the Aiken baseball "Name the Team" online contest. He will receive a pair of season tickets for the 2007 Inaugural Season and will also have the opportunity to present the line-up cards on Opening Day at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

According to league officials, Foxhounds narrowly edged out Blueticks according to the results of the "Name the Team" online contest conducted over the past several weeks.

"Foxhounds" struck Aiken team officials as a logical choice for the name of the new baseball franchise, and the results of the online contest certainly agreed with their notions. Widely known as scrappy, smart, and energetic hunters, Foxhounds have a reputation for vigorously tracking down their foes by scent. Hunting enthusiasts have taken a liking to the Foxhound due to their outstanding endurance, exceptional speed, and strong desire to reach their target.

"We all agreed that 'Foxhounds' was a catchy and unique name, but the more we learned about them we found that they are very challenging, smart, and worthy adversaries. These are qualities that any sports fan would want in their hometown team," notes Foxhounds GM Bradley Bell. "Furthermore, 'Foxhounds' is a unique name that has not been used in minor league sports - a name that affords us some creativity and flexibility in marketing the team throughout the region."

Select team merchandise items are now available, including caps and t-shirts featuring the Aiken Club's new logo. Season tickets are now on sale for the 2007 inaugural season, with a $50 deposit required to reserve a seat. The Foxhounds' new look website is also set to launch next week.

Aiken, Charlotte County, FL, Albany, GA, Bradenton, FL and Macon, GA will be joined by one final South Coast League charter franchise. The SCL is a six-team based independent professional baseball league located in the Southeastern U.S. First pitch is slated for May of 2007.
