HOOVER, Alabama - Eighty-eight football players squared off against one another on the field January 20th in a collegiate all-star game at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium and the American Indoor Football (AIF) was there. AIF coaches and staff were hard at work during the 5 days of the festival from preparing the Admirals squad for the USA Football Bowl to participating in the football combine the day after.
John Morris, Commissioner and Owner of the AIF says, " We are proud to take part and support this event, The AIF prides itself in helping players excel and have the opportunity to showcase their skills." Mr. Morris goes on to say, "The AIF will continue to be a leader of Professional Indoor Football. The AIF was formed for the purpose of giving players a platform to excel and work to continuing their football careers at a higher level, and this shows our commitment to that goal."
"Having AIF coaches participate in this event enables the AIF to scout and recruit additional quality players to the league from the collegiate Division 11 and 111 levels." States AIF Director of Player Development Charles Gunnings. "We are very excited in our partnership with the USA Football Bowl and its president Dennis Wilson; it will only enhance the future of the AIF"
The AIF led coaching staff saw their team the Admirals take a 37-13 victory over the Generals in the USA Football Bowl. The Admirals coaching staff consisted of Marcus James, head coach of the AIF's Atlanta Sharks. His assistants from his AIF staff included C.J. Maiden and Pentrez Denham. "I would like to thank the AIF and the USA Football Bowl for the opportunity to represent the AIF in this event. It was a great experience for both myself and my staff" says Marcus James "From coaching and preparing the players for the game to evaluating the player combine side by side with other professional scouts. I look forward to returning in 2015".
When asked, player Zane Brown gave his view on the five day event. Zane the Generals' defensive MVP from Texas A&M Kingsville said there were quite a few scouts when they initially came to town. "The first day there was probably 10 NFL scouts and seven of the nine CFL teams, and the American Indoor Football present," Brown said. "The NFL teams were the ones who actually measured us - height, weight, arm length and that stuff."
Arkansas Tech quarterback Luke Halpin, offensive MVP for the winning Admirals, says the MVP will be another feather in his helmet. "It was good exposure, I enjoyed it," he said. "I'm looking forward to signing a contract, hopefully in the near future. We'll see how that goes."
"I am very excited about the AIF's participation in our festival of events; they brought with them a strong coaching background and were a huge asset to us and our success." Dennis Wilson president of USA Football Bowl states "We look forward to a long relationship with the AIF going forward."
AIF teams will be drafting two players each from the USA Football Bowl in mid-February and offering them professional contracts to come into each team's training camp. For more information on the draft and the latest news from the AIF, visit - www.aifprofootball.com
