AHL Quick Hits
Published on May 12, 2004 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
For Philadelphia and Chicago, the bad news is that it's only happened 12 times in the 68-year history of the American Hockey League. The good news: It's happened twice in the last three weeks. "It" is a successful comeback from a 3-1 series deficit to win a best-of-seven Calder Cup Playoff series, and tonight, the Phantoms and Wolves begin the uphill climb to add their names to the list.
After a pair of shutout losses left them on the brink of elimination, Philadelphia returns home to face off with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in Game 5 (7:05 ET)... Andy Chiodo put up the zeroes in Games 3 and 4, improving his record to 5-0 on the postseason... Chiodo has stopped 50 consecutive shots since being lifted from Game 1 after allowing four goals on 11 attempts... Tom Kostopoulos has recorded a point in eight straight games for the Penguins (4g, 6a)... All six of Wilkes-Barre's road playoff games have been decided by one goal, including five in overtime... Philadelphia's scoreless streak is at exactly 120 minutes since winning Game 2 in OT... The Phantoms have scored as many goals in the third overtime (1) as in the third period (1) this postseason... Philadelphia is 6-5 all-time when facing elimination, with all five season-ending losses coming on home ice.
Chicago's 5-2 loss on Monday puts Milwaukee one win away from advancing to the Western Conference final as the puck drops for Game 5 at the Bradley Center tonight (7:00 CT)... The Wolves are 6-1 since 2002 when facing Calder Cup Playoff elimination... Eric Healey is Chicago's top scorer in the series with five points (all assists), and Brian Swanson has scored three of the Wolves' nine goals... Steve Maltais is up to 73 career AHL playoff points, good for 14th on the league's all-time list... Milwaukee has scored 28 goals in six home playoff games... Wade Flaherty has won his last five appearances in net for the Admirals... All-Star defenseman Andrew Hutchinson has six points in Milwaukee's last six games.
