AFL Teams Pursue Free Agents
October 31, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK â The Arena Football League free-agent signing period began October 15, 2003. This year, 226 free agents were eligible to be signed by one of the AFL's 19 teams, which include the expansion Austin Wranglers, New Orleans VooDoo and Philadelphia Soul.
Early movement highlights include the expansion Austin Wranglers landing 2003 Lineman of the Year TOM BRIGGS (Dallas), ArenaBowl XVII QB JOHN KALEO (Tampa Bay) and 13-year AFL Ironman DARRYL HAMMOND (Georgia). Thus far, 55 players have signed with new teams and 11 have re-signed with their old team.
Players listed are AFL free agents, meaning they are players whose contracts expired after the 2003 season, as opposed to "off-the-street" free agents.
