AFL online auction to raise funds for relief efforts

NEW YORK - The Arena Football League and its teams will be holding an online charity auction in which all proceeds will go to AFL Charities Hurricane Relief Fund on www.arenafootball.com starting Wednesday, September 14 at 3 p.m. ET. Items auctioned off will include signed memorabilia (helmets, footballs, jerseys, etc.), game-used items, and AFL experiences that will allow winning bidders to participate in activities with their favorite team.

Some of the items available for auction include:

- A game-used jersey of 2005 ADT Defensive Player and Lineman of the Year SILAS DEMARY

- A game-used helmet of Los Angeles Avengers defensive specialist ANTUAN SIMMONS

- Columbus Destroyers helmet with autograph of former head coach and NFL great CHRIS SPIELMAN

- 2005 Destroyers replica jersey with signatures from entire 2005 team

- Official af2 football with signatures of all seven 2005 award winners

In addition to the auction, the AFL is sending t-shirts, jerseys, hats and other supplies to the Red Cross, Tulane University and the New Orleans VooDoo. Many AFL teams are also getting involved in relief efforts. Some of the efforts include:

- Grand Rapids Rampage are making arrangements to bring current defensive specialist and New Orleans resident JOJO POLK back to Grand Rapids after he lost everything due to the hurricane. Head coach SPARKY MC EWEN and assistant coach MICHAEL BAKER are sending clothes and toiletries to aide Polk and his family while attempting to secure a job for him in Grand Rapids.

- The Las Vegas Gladiators will hold a one-day youth football and junior dance camp on Saturday, September 24 at Sam Boyd Stadium to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. A $25 donation to participate in the camp will be given directly to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Relief.

- San Jose SaberCats' flagship radio station KNBR is conducting an auction to raise money for the relief efforts. The SaberCats are donating four (4) game jerseys, four (4) footballs, four (4) front row seats to a game in 2006 and four (4) Nike SaberCat polo shirts. The SaberCats will also match the winning donations.

- Players from the five-time ArenaBowl champion Tampa Bay Storm signed autographs this past weekend for those contributing to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts at the St. Pete Times Forum.
