AFL on NBC two-game season average up 19 percent

NEW YORK – Feb. 20, 2004 – The AFL on NBC season-to-date two-game average rating stands at a 1.9 national rating/4 share, which represents a 19 percent increase from the inaugural season's two-game average of a 1.6/4, according to Nielsen Media research.

Last Saturday's 3 p.m. ET regional coverage (2/14/04) earned a 1.7/4, marking a six percent increase over the 1.6/4 for last year's Sunday 3 p.m. ET telecast (2/09/03). The AFL on NBC moved to Saturday due to NBC's Daytona 500 coverage but returns to its regular Sunday afternoon 3 p.m. ET timeslot this weekend with regional coverage of five games (Feb. 22).

Additionally, the AFL on NBC studio show, hosted by Al Trautwig with analyst Glenn Parker, welcomes its first in-studio guest analyst Pittsburgh Steelers and former AFL quarterback Maddox. They will kick-off the day with a preview of the regional coverage, including live interviews from the venues.

NBC's AFL coverage is highlighted by the lead game between two undefeated teams: John Elway's Colorado franchise (2-0) taking on Chicago (2-0) at the Allstate Arena. NBC's Eli Gold (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analyst) and Mark Schanowski (sideline reporter) from WMAQ-TV in Chicago have the call.

NBC's other AFL regional games include: San Jose (1-0) @ Los Angeles (2-0): Tom Hammond (play-by-play), Pat Haden (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (sideline reporter) will broadcast the game.

Tampa Bay (1-1) @ Austin (1-0): NBC's Bill Weber (play-by-play), Pat Sperduto (analyst) and Roger Wallace (sideline reporter) from KXAN-TV in Austin.

New Orleans (2-0) @ Georgia (1-1): Allen Bestwick (play-by-play), Mike Pawlawski (analyst) and Fred Kalil (sideline reporter) from WXIA-TV in New Orleans.

Dallas (1-1) @ New York (1-1): Bob Papa (play-by-play), Ray Bentley (analyst) and Otis Livingston (sideline reporter) from WNBC-TV in New York.
