
AFL Official and Athletic Trainer of the Year Announced

TULSA - The Arena Football League announced today that SHAWN HOCHULI has been named 2011 Official of the Year. Hochuli has been an official for 12 years, spending nine seasons with the AFL and af2. He has been a White Cap for three seasons and demonstrated the leadership qualities that are necessary to refereeing. He has also been an official in Division I College Football for nine seasons and is currently set to be an official for the Pac 12. Hochuli displayed diligence, honor and commitment during the 2011 AFL season.
"It's an honor to be associated with a League that has such high professionalism, integrity and class," Hochuli said. "There are a lot of very good officials that deserve that award and do a great job in the League. To be honored as the AFL Official of the Year is just a great honor and I hope I represent the League well."
Meanwhile, the Iowa Barnstormers' SARAH BANWARTH has been named the 2011 Arena Football League Athletic Trainer of the Year in just her third year of certification and first season with the Barnstormers,
"It was extremely hard work," Banwarth said about the season. "I put in anywhere from 50 to 70 hours a week into the Barnstormers. This honor shows me that the League recognized the blood, sweat and tears we went through this season and they appreciated the job that I did."
