LAS VEGAS - The Arena Football League has announced that Tampa Bay quarterback Randy Hippeard and linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson have been named as the offensive and defensive players of the week for Week 3, respectively.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Hippeard (6'3", 205, UVa-Wise) was responsible for all nine Tampa Bay Storm (2-1) touchdowns in their 62-61 victory over the Cleveland Gladiators (0-3) in Week 3. Completing 37-of-47 passing attempts for 387 yards and seven passing touchdowns, Hippeard also scored two rushing touchdowns in the contest including the game-winning score with :03 seconds remaining in regulation. Currently the fourth-year man out of UVa-Wise leads the AFL in rushing with 22.7 yards per game, passing with 294.7 yards per contest and leads all quarterbacks with 19 touchdowns passing.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jackson (6'1", 200, Albany State) was a vital part of the Tampa Bay defense in their victory over Cleveland in Week 3. Tallying 6.5 tackles in the contest (5 solo, 3 assisted), it was his play in the second half that began the furious Storm comeback. With 7:15 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Jackson stripped Cleveland quarterback Arvell Nelson of the football on the one-yard line that would have given the Gladiators a commanding lead. Sparked by Jackson's play coupled with Hippeard's play on the offensive side of the ball, the Storm were able to complete a 20-point comeback after beginning the game down 27-7.
PREVIOUS WINNERS
