THURSDAY'S GAME
CINCINNATI 53, Rochester 17 (Attendance: 3,221): Game MVP JAMES SCOTT caught eight passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Swarm (5-8) over the Brigade (2-12). JON CAIN added two touchdowns on two catches for the Swarm, who sit in second place in the Midwest Division. JUSTIN COLEMAN, who garnered ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors, recorded a game-high 6.5 tackles for the Swarm. The Swarm outscored the Brigade 19-0 in the final quarter.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
MOHEGAN 38, Bossier 26 (Attendance: 3,081): OS MEL LONG, Game MVP, hauled in seven passes for 92 yards and three touchdowns as the Wolves (9-4) topped the Battle Wings (3-11). QB GREG SMITH went 10-of-18 passing for 141 yards with three scores and he rushed for another touchdown. Bossier City's LEAFORD HACKITT led all receivers with eight grabs for 146 yards with two touchdowns. The Wolves' CHARLIE COOK tallied 3.5 sacks to earn ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors.
MACON 75, Columbus 42 (Attendance: 2,314): QB JERMAINE ALFRED completed 14-of-17 for 150 yards with three touchdowns and he rushed for two additional scores, as the Knights (8-5) hammered the Wardogs (3-10). The Knights rushed for six touchdowns, including one from Game MVP JACQUES RUMPH. Rumph also led all receivers with six grabs for 94 yards and two touchdowns. DENARIO SMALLS, ADT Defensive Player of the Game, tallied two interceptions and teammate MARIO EVANS registered two sacks.
ALBANY 59, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 58 (Attendance: 5,005): RYAN VENA, Game MVP, connected with COREY HILL for a six-yard touchdown with 15 seconds left to lift the Conquest (11-2) over the Pioneers (5-8) and clinch a spot in the postseason. The Pioneers had one late chance to win the game, but DENNIS WUESTKAMP'S 50-yard field goal attempt went wide left. Vena went 20-of-30 passing for 342 yards with five touchdowns and he rushed for three more scores. For the Pioneers, CHRIS BODEN completed 21-of-36 for 307 yards with six touchdowns and he added one rushing tally. TERRELL JOHNSON led all receivers with six catches for 108 yards and two scores. Teammates COSMO DEMATTEO and JOHN ANDERSON also each had two touchdown receptions for the Pioneers.
Florida 52, CAPE FEAR 35 (Attendance: 4,843): KEN MASTROLE completed 23-of-35 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns as the Firecats (8-5) rolled past the Wildcats (8-5) and won their fourth straight game. ANTHONY DIXON hauled in seven catches for 92 yards and two scores and SCHAD FREEMAN rushed for two touchdowns for Florida. The Florida defense held the Wildcats to 174 yards of total offense and forced and recovered three fumbles.
NORFOLK 63, Richmond 28 (Attendance: 4,023): QBs CHRIS WALLACE and AARON SPARROW combined to throw seven touchdowns as the Nighthawks (7-6) kept postseason hopes alive with the win over the Speed (5-8). Wallace, who went 7-of-12 passing for 164 yards and four touchdowns, earned Game MVP honors. Teammate QUESUAN WIGFALL nabbed ADT Defensive Player of the Game accolades for his two crucial interceptions.
Greensboro 76, CHARLESTON 62 (Attendance: 3,408): Ironman of the Game BOBBY SIPPIO caught six passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns to help the Prowlers (6-7) handle the Swamp Foxes (6-7). QB CALEB SLOVER went 20-for-34 for 290 yards with six touchdowns and he rushed for two more as the Prowlers extended their winning streak to two games. CHARLESTON QB JOHN TURMAN completed 23-of-39 passes for a team record 367 yards and eight touchdowns, but was hurt by three interceptions.
Birmingham 55, ARKANSAS 54 (Attendance: 6,529): Kicker RHETT GALLEGO hit a 37-yard field goal at the buzzer to carry the Steeldogs (7-6) over the Twisters (7-6). OS DEMONTRAY CARTER rushed for three touchdowns and pulled in six receptions for 71 yards for the Steeldogs. Arkansas' KEVIN WILLIAMS led the Twisters with two rushing and two receiving touchdowns. ARYVIA HOLMES, who caught one touchdown, had a 57-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Steeldogs.
Louisville 56, PEORIA 38 (Attendance: 5,446): Louisville scored 37 points in the second quarter to build a 44-17 halftime lead as the Fire (4-10) burned the Pirates (4-9). DEMETRIUS FORNEY rushed for 13 yards and two touchdowns while knocking in a safety as well. Defensive specialist DENNIS FRYZEL recorded five solo tackles, an interception, and a pass deflection as the Fire snapped its seven game losing streak. League-leading scorer JACK WALKER had two touchdown receptions for the Pirates.
Tennessee Valley 51, MEMPHIS 36 (Attendance: 4,344): QB MATT SAUK threw five touchdowns to lead the undefeated Vipers (13-0) past the Xplorers (5-8). Sauk connected with four different receivers for his five touchdowns and threw for a total of 221 yards. REGGIE WORTHY caught two touchdown passes to lead the Vipers. Memphis teammates TERRELL ADAMS and GEORGE WILLIAMS each caught two touchdowns for the Xplorers.
Quad City 75, GREEN BAY 29 (Attendance: 2,649): Quarterback TONY ZIMMERMAN went 17-for-20 for 278 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for two more as the Steamwheelers (11-2) melted the Blizzard (2-11). IRA GOOCH's three touchdown receptions helped Quad City extend its winning streak to eleven games. TIM DODGE added eight catches for 133 yards and two scores and became the third Steamwheelers to break 1,000 yards receiving this season.
