CHICAGO - Bossier City quarterback SHERARD POTEETE, Louisville wide receiver/defensive back NORMAN MASON and Albany defensive specialist ELIJAH BEAMON have been named Offensive Player, Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 2 of the 2003 season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Poteete (6-1, 225, Southern Illinois), in his third season, led af2's highest offensive output of the early 2003 season as his Battle Wings defeated the defending ArenaCup champion Peoria Pirates 72-58. Poteete had a hand in eight of the Battle Wings' 11 touchdowns, as he rushed for four and passed for another four scores. He completed 18-of-25 for 259 yards and totaled 74 yards on the ground. Over his career, Poteete has 755 rushing yards and 51 rushing touchdowns, which are both all-time af2 records. This is the second time he has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, with the first award coming during the 2001 season.

IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Mason, (5-10, 185, Kentucky), who is in his third af2 season, continued his hot start to the 2003 season with another powerful all-around effort in Week 2. Even though his team lost 20-54 to Cape Fear, Mason did everything he could for the Fire, accounting for the team's only two touchdowns via kick returns of 54 yards and 57 yards. Overall, he amassed 160 yards on four kick returns and 21 yards on one missed field goal runback. As a receiver, Mason grabbed two balls for 28 yards and on defense he contributed 5.5 tackles. He has earned Ironman of the Game in both games he's played this season. This is Mason's first Ironman of the Week award.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Beamon (6-1, 195, Lafayette College), playing in his second season, propelled the Conquest to a 45-42 win over conference rival Richmond with a game-winning interception return for a touchdown. With 37 seconds left in the game he stepped in front of a Joel Gordon pass intended for two-time Ironman of the Year, Kevin Harvey, bobbled it once and then plunged over two Speed players for the go-ahead score.
