af2 alumni to impact Monday night game
Published on June 3, 2007 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - The Colorado Crush (8-5) will take on the Utah Blaze (6-7) in this week's Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football League Monday matchup. The game, which will be broadcast live at 10:30 p.m. ET on June 4 on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com, will provide a national showcase for a number of notable arenafootball2 (af2) alumni on both sides.
Colorado boasts two players and one assistant coach with experience in the af2. Quarterbacks coach CHRIS BODEN is in the midst of his first season with Colorado, coming to the team from the Nashville Kats, where he also served as quarterbacks coach. Boden played two seasons in the af2, first with the New Haven Ninjas in 2002. Boden moved on to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2003 and started all 16 games for the Pioneers. He also served as the team's offensive coordinator that season. Crush K JASON BALL got his Arena Football career started with the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (2004) and Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (2005). Ball earned second team all-af2 honors in 2004 while playing for the Battle Wings, where he went 11-for-29 on field goals and 70-for-87 on PATs for the season. In 2005, Ball was 5-for-12 on field goals and 38-for-47 on PATs for the season with the Yard Dawgz. He currently ranks third in the AFL in points scored by a kicker with 120 (15-of-25 FGs, 75-for-87 PATs).
The Blaze will take the field with seven players with af2 experience. DB DAHNEL SINGFIELD competed in the af2 for two full seasons before breaking into the AFL. He got his first taste of the game in 2003 with the Mohegan Wolves before starring for the Memphis Xplorers in 2004 and 2005. Singfield earned second team all-af2 honors in 2004 with 107 tackles for the season, and was among the league leaders with seven interceptions. Singfield was a big reason why the Xplorers claimed the 2005 ArenaCup title thanks to his league-high 12 interceptions. He also earned the league's Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2005 as well as first team all-af2 National Conference honors. He's currently third on the Utah squad with 32 total tackles. Before finding his way onto the Blaze roster, Singfield enjoyed an outstanding rookie AFL season in 2006 with the New York Dragons. The former Buffalo standout recorded 63.5 tackles and seven interceptions last year, including two interception returns for touchdowns.
