HOUSTON --- The Houston Aeros, the 2010-11 American Hockey League Western Conference Champions, today announced that Assistant Coach Brian Wiseman has been named assistant coach of the University of Michigan men's ice hockey team.
"Brian did a great job with the Aeros and was a big part of the success we had this season," Aeros General Manager Jim Mill said. "We wish him well with the Wolverines and know he will help continue the tradition of success at Michigan."
Wiseman, a Michigan alumnus, previously served as an assistant coach at Princeton University during the 2003-04 campaign. Wiseman was a video coach for the Dallas Stars in 2002-03 and served as the Michigan ice hockey team's administrative assistant in 2000-01 and '01-02.
In 166 career games with the Wolverines, Wiseman racked up 348 points, which ranks third all-time for the program. His 164 assists are second-best in U-M annals. As a senior captain in 1993-94 he led U-M in scoring (19-50-69), earned All-America first team honors and was voted a Hobey Baker finalist. Wiseman is one of only seven U-M players to notch 50 assists in one season. He led off his career by garnering the CCHA Rookie of the Year award in 1990-91 when he tallied a 25-33-58 line, the second-highest point total by any Wolverine freshman. Wiseman was a member of U-M's first CCHA regular-season championship team (1991-92) and its first CCHA Tournament winner (1994). He won a second CCHA regular-season crown in 1993-94.
Wiseman was a member of the Houston Aeros 1999 Turner Cup Championship team and teammate of current Aeros head coach Mike Yeo. During that season, Wiseman was named the IHL's Most Valuable Player after he totaled a league-leading 109 points with 21 goals over 77 regular-season games. During Wiseman's three-year tenure as a player with the Aeros he played in 227 games and totaled 260 points with 62 goals and ranks in the franchise top-10 for goals, assists, power play goals, game-winning goals and points.
